July 24, 2010: No Longer Betting With His Life And Family

July 24, 2010: Bea's Life Was Not In "Harmony" When She Drank

Bea created an alter ego for herself named “Harmony”.  When Bea wasn’t drinking, “Harmony” would take over and hit the slot machines all night at the casino.  Bea also drank too much.  She first found help for her drinking, but then replaced her drinking with gambling--or as Bea calls it “the mother of all addictions” leaving Bea, a grown woman, with no money and no identity.

July 17, 2010: Tragic Events Trigger The Drinking
Suicidal, depressed and unable to quit drinking ,Mimi hit bottom in her life after 9/11.  Being from Japan, Mimi reveled in how alcohol embodied celebration and good times in her culture.  But towards the end, drinking was no longer enjoyable and only a means to cope with sadness.  She was now faced with a choice: to live in self pity and misery or to quit drinking and lead a life of service.

June 26, 2010: Finally Figuring Out Rehab Was The Only Answer
Doug was prepared to flee rehab yet again; this time with two teenagers who were going to a girlfriend’s house whose father was away. Doug had a moment of clarity envisioning the girl’s father returning to find a bald 50 year old man sitting on the couch shooting heroin. After 16 years of daily use Doug decided to stay in rehab and give recovery his full effort.
June 26, 2010: An 'Old Timer' Shares His Many Years Of Drinking
When Edward was 18 he moved to New York City and recalls feeling free as he had reached a place where he could drink and not worry about hurting his loved ones. Edward’s drinking progressed for 20 more years throughout which he experienced jails, institutions and a near death car accident that made him realize if he wanted to stay alive he had to find a way not to drink.
